Future
The Dutch Cabinet has announced that it will be making 15 million euros available in the coming five years for innovation in sport. The innovation programme is founded on the InnoSport NL memorandum drafted by NOC*NSF and TNO. The objective is to establish a collaborative venture comprising parties from sport, the business world and knowledge institutes. In order to ensure that innovation in sport actually occurs, field labs will be set up for various sports. These field labs will serve as incubators for sport innovation: an environment in which sports men and women, sports organisations, companies, TNO, universities and other knowledge institutes develop knowledge and innovation for elite and recreational sport.

TNO and NOC*NSF have previously combined their knowledge in ‘Innovating for Gold’ (2002-2005) where they investigated the needs of sport and the possibilities that companies had to offer. This led to various successful innovation projects, including the positioning system being used at PSV.
